He went on to earn his Medical Degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago in 1982. Dr. Hughes completed his General Surgical Internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago in 1983, and completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School in 1987. Dr. Hughes served as Chief Resident at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago in 1986.

Dr. Hughes maintained a private practice in Clearwater until July 2005 when he joined Orthopaedic Specialties of Tampa Bay, P.A.

He earned his Medical Degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago in 1964. He served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1966 to 1967, after which he completed an Orthopaedic Training Program at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital, followed by a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at Chicago’s Passavant Memorial Hospital.

Richard V. Abdo, M.D.

Richard V. Abdo, M.D.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Brown University in 1978, graduating with Honors in Geology-Biology. In 1982, he received his Medical Degree, Cum Laude from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed his General Surgery Internship at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California in 1983, and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Boston University in 1987.

He was Clinical Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and Director of The Lahey Clinic Foot and Ankle Fellowship. In Florida, he has served on the Voluntary Faculty of the Dept. of Family Medicine from 2000 to present as Affiliate Assistant Professor, including the Sports Medicine Fellowship training program.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering and Chemistry from University of Illinois – Urbana in 1999. He then attended medical school at Midwestern University –Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downer’s Grove, Illinois, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2003, as class Salutatorian.

Dr. Marcotte completed his Internship and Orthopaedic Residency programs at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center, Ohio University, in Dayton, Ohio. He was nationally honored with the Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year Award during his chief year. Dr. Marcotte fulfilled three resident externships in hand surgery at Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis; Philadelphia Hand Center in Philadelphia; and Hand Surgery Specialists in Cincinnati, Ohio. He subsequently finished a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston in 2009.

He is an associate professor for the Largo Medical Center Orthopaedic Residency, Morton Plant Mease Family Medicine Residency, and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs through the University of South Florida. Dr. Marcotte has privileges at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL and Largo Medical Center in Largo, FL. He has been serving as a team physician to the Philadelphia Phillies since 2009.

Michael R. Piazza, M.D.

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Scranton in 1979, graduating Cum Laude. Dr. Piazza went on to earn his Medical Degree from the Milton S. Hershey Medical School of Penn State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1983. Dr. Piazza completed his General Surgical Internship at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania in 1984. He completed his Orthopedic Residency program at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1988, and furthered his medical training with an additional year of study in the prestigious Spine Fellowship Program at Pennsylvania Hospital — Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Dr. Piazza presently serves as chairman of the Spine Section of Morton Plant Hospital. He has been involved with extensive research in disorders of the spine, has published several articles relating to orthopaedics and spine surgery, and has served on several administrative committees for Morton F. Plant Hospital. Dr. Piazza’s expertise in orthopedics has enabled him to become involved in clinical research studies. He is presently actively involved in enrolling clinical research patients in both pharmacologic and device related spine research studies.

J. Byron Davidson, D.O.

J. Byron Davidson, D.O.

He completed his undergraduate training at Texas A&M University, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences. He then attended the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, Fort Worth, where he received a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. His Internship and Orthopaedic Residency followed at Ohio University in Columbus. He then completed a one year Spinal Reconstruction Fellowship at the Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater where he stayed on as a faculty member training spine fellows prior to joining Orthopaedic Specialties of Tampa Bay in 2006.

He is currently enrolling patients as the Primary Investigator and Co-investigator on several FDA Pivotal studies. Dr. Davidson is an Associate Clinical Professor at University of South Florida participating in Family Practice Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship. He also serves on numerous committees at Morton Plant Hospital where he recently completed Chairmanship of the Department of Surgery.

George A. Morris III, M.D.

George A. Morris III, M.D.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rhodes College in Memphis in 1957, graduating with Honors. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1960. He then completed his General Surgical Internship at Charity Hospital of Louisiana in 1961, where he was named Outstanding Surgical Intern. Dr. Morris was an Honors Graduate from the Navy School of Aviation Medicine in 1961, serving as a Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander from 1961 to 1965. He completed his Orthopedic Residency program at Bowman Gray North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1968 as Chief Resident.

Dr. Morris has worked extensively on behalf of Morton Plant Hospital, serving on many committees. He continues to work diligently for the Morton Plant Hospital Foundation.  Dr. Morris treats patients of all ages for all types of orthopedic problems.
