Dr. Davis is currently Chief of Surgery at Edward White Hospital, having served as the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery at Bayfront Medical Center for over 10 years.

He is well known in the Tampa Bay area for his extensive experience in the treatment of complex spinal disorders.

He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in Chicago. His categorical orthopaedic internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery were completed at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Lowry is Chief of Orthopaedics and a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Team at Bayfront Medical Center, as well as Chief of Orthopaedics at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

After earning his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he completed his surgical internship at The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Surgery, and University Health Center Hospitals. Dr. Gnage continued at the University of Pittsburgh as a resident and teaching Fellow in General and Orthopaedic Surgery.

He is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Preceptor for medical students at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL. Dr. Gnage has served as Chief of Staff of Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL.

Michael J. Smith, M.D.

Michael J. Smith, M.D.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. He did his internship and general surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his orthopaedic training at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Smith has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leading specialist in Sports Medicine and Total Joint Replacement. He has been the team physician for many professional, collegiate, and Olympic teams. He served as the team physician for the Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football League. He has been the orthopaedic consultant for the St Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, and the Cleveland Indians baseball teams. Dr. Smith was Chief Physician for the Women’s Olympic Basketball team at the Goodwill Games in Moscow, Russia, and for the US Women’s Olympic Basketball Team during the Trials in Colorado Springs.

He went on to earn his Medical Degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago in 1982. Dr. Hughes completed his General Surgical Internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago in 1983, and completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School in 1987. Dr. Hughes served as Chief Resident at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago in 1986.

Dr. Hughes maintained a private practice in Clearwater until July 2005 when he joined Orthopaedic Specialties of Tampa Bay, P.A.

Howard L. Schuele, M.D.

He earned his Medical Degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago in 1964. He served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1966 to 1967, after which he completed an Orthopaedic Training Program at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital, followed by a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at Chicago’s Passavant Memorial Hospital.

Howard Schuele, M.D. has been Active Staff of Morton Plant Hospital from 1972 to the present.

Richard V. Abdo, M.D.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Brown University in 1978, graduating with Honors in Geology-Biology. In 1982, he received his Medical Degree, Cum Laude from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed his General Surgery Internship at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California in 1983, and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Boston University in 1987.

He was Clinical Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and Director of The Lahey Clinic Foot and Ankle Fellowship. In Florida, he has served on the Voluntary Faculty of the Dept. of Family Medicine from 2000 to present as Affiliate Assistant Professor, including the Sports Medicine Fellowship training program.

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Scranton in 1979, graduating Cum Laude. Dr. Piazza went on to earn his Medical Degree from the Milton S. Hershey Medical School of Penn State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1983. Dr. Piazza completed his General Surgical Internship at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania in 1984. He completed his Orthopedic Residency program at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1988, and furthered his medical training with an additional year of study in the prestigious Spine Fellowship Program at Pennsylvania Hospital — Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Dr. Piazza presently serves as chairman of the Spine Section of Morton Plant Hospital. He has been involved with extensive research in disorders of the spine, has published several articles relating to orthopaedics and spine surgery, and has served on several administrative committees for Morton F. Plant Hospital. Dr. Piazza’s expertise in orthopedics has enabled him to become involved in clinical research studies. He is presently actively involved in enrolling clinical research patients in both pharmacologic and device related spine research studies.

George A. Morris III, M.D.

George A. Morris III, M.D.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rhodes College in Memphis in 1957, graduating with Honors. He went on to earn his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1960. He then completed his General Surgical Internship at Charity Hospital of Louisiana in 1961, where he was named Outstanding Surgical Intern. Dr. Morris was an Honors Graduate from the Navy School of Aviation Medicine in 1961, serving as a Flight Surgeon in the United States Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander from 1961 to 1965. He completed his Orthopedic Residency program at Bowman Gray North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1968 as Chief Resident.

Dr. Morris has worked extensively on behalf of Morton Plant Hospital, serving on many committees. He continues to work diligently for the Morton Plant Hospital Foundation.  Dr. Morris treats patients of all ages for all types of orthopedic problems.
